Disclosures
- How we make money: Some links may earn us a referral fee at no cost to you. Fees never affect scores, rankings, or what we cover, and we accept no paid placement.
- How this was researched: Everything on this page comes from public vendor documentation, regulators, and third-party sources, each linked below with the date we checked it. We did not test these products hands-on.
- Not advice: General business software information, not medical, legal, billing, or compliance advice. Confirm current prices, state rules, and BAA terms directly with the vendor before you buy.
What the rubric measures
The Practice Stack rubric scores how well a product's public documentation shows it fits a psychiatric prescriber's practice. It does not measure clinical quality, ease of use, or support, and it is not based on hands-on testing.
Weighted criteria
| Criterion | Weight | What earns points |
|---|---|---|
| Total cost of ownership | 25% | Published base price plus the add-ons a prescriber needs (eRx, EPCS, PDMP), one-time fees, and contract terms. 5 = full published price with all-in cost under about $150/mo; 3 = published, mid-range or partly published; 1 = no published price. |
| Prescribing workflow (eRx, EPCS, PDMP) | 25% | eRx, EPCS, identity proofing and 2FA, and integrated PDMP, documented with cost and state coverage. 5 = EPCS and PDMP both documented as integrated; 3 = EPCS documented, PDMP not; 1 = not documented. |
| Billing and claims | 15% | Claims submission, ERA, eligibility, clearinghouse fees, superbills, and optional billing services. 5 = full claims workflow with published fees; 1 = not documented. |
| Interoperability (labs, APIs, exchange) | 10% | Lab integrations, APIs, Direct messaging, record exchange networks, certification. 5 = several documented with terms; 1 = not documented. |
| Data portability and export | 10% | Export formats, migration in and out, data ownership language, and fees. 5 = documented export formats plus ownership terms; 2 = only inbound migration documented; 1 = not documented. |
| Security and compliance documentation | 10% | Public BAA, security pages, certifications, audit reports (including DEA EPCS audit availability). 5 = public BAA and current certification; 1 = not documented. |
| Telehealth | 5% | Built-in telehealth and its price. 4 to 5 = included in base plan; 2 to 3 = paid add-on; 1 = not documented. |
Scoring scale
- 5: Fully documented and strong for prescribers, with prices.
- 4: Documented and strong, minor gaps.
- 3: Documented with notable gaps or a paid add-on.
- 2: Partly documented.
- 1: Not publicly documented (ask vendor).
- 0: Documented as unavailable.
How the score is calculated
Score = sum of (weight x criterion score / 5) across criteria, out of 100. If a criterion has not been assessed for any vendor in a given comparison, it is excluded and the result is rescaled to 100, and the page says so.
Documentation-only rules
- Every input must link to a dated public source: vendor pricing pages, help centers, terms, published price lists, regulators, or reputable third parties.
- Each fact carries an evidence label: Vendor-reported Documentation reviewed Third-party sourced Not publicly disclosed.
- Missing information scores 1, not a guess. Vendor marketing claims about competitors are not used to score the competitor.
- Vendor-written comparisons count only for claims about the vendor itself, labeled vendor-reported.
- Referral fees never affect scores, rankings, or what we cover. No paid placement.
- Scores are rechecked when sources change and every change is logged in the page changelog.
